Klartch is the griffin who was found in Jason Yeldham's attic who later hatched in Chrestomanci Castle. He grew quickly to make up for lost time and Janet Chant made up a sport called Klartchball, named after him using him as a player to trip people up.

Klartch's name came from the fact that griffins name themselves. This fact is stated by Mr Vastion.
